UG RETRO

UG RETRO

PROBAT’s universal gas roasters were originally developed in the 1920s to achieve maximum flavor development and maximum yield in the cup – and this goal has not changed to this day. The rotating drum inside the UG retro is equipped with special shovel blades to ensure that the coffee beans are mixed evenly during the roasting process, producing a homogeneous final product.

The ability to adjust the use of hot air using the “flavor wheel” is a feature that makes the UG retro stand out – with a flick of the wrist, you can adjust the hot air flow in different directions. The roasters are still built according to the original plans, but are equipped with a state-of-the-art drive, burner, and electrical technology.

With roasting times between ten and twenty minutes, heat is applied to the coffee beans over a longer period of time, resulting in exceptional flavor development. Thanks to a maximum batch size of 25 kilograms and the successful combination of state-of-the-art technology with an attractive retro design, the UG retro looks fabulous out on display.

BENEFITS FOR YOUR COFFEE

The UG retro stands out primarily for its flexibility. Since the warm airflow can be varied, the sky’s the limit when it comes to creating different roasting profiles. Aside from special features designed for specific customers, all UG retro roasters offer the following benefits:

  • Temperature measurement of the supply air, product, and roasting exhaust air
  • homogeneous mixing of the coffee beans in the roasting drum
  • Frequency converter to adjust roasting air volume
  • precise airflow thanks to the traditional “flavor wheel”
  • intensive cooling
  • powerful fans
  • reproducible product quality
  • independent drives for the drum, mixer, and roasting and cooling fans
  • large maintenance openings for easy cleaning
  • negative pressure measurement (optional)

CONTROL

The UG retro is equipped with thermocouples as standard to document the supply air, product, and exhaust air temperatures. The basic version is controlled manually. Alternatively, the UG retro can be equipped with a semi-automatic control s via a touch panel.

  • Recipe management with up to 20 user-definable recipes; saved settings can be reproduced safely and automatically. (semi-automatic control solution)
  • Six temperature levels can be defined in advance for each recipe (semi-automatic control solution)
  • Visualization of the roasting curve on the touch screen (semi-automatic control solution)
  • Burner output can be selected manually or automatically from a recipe (semi-automatic control solution)
  • Interfaces for external software systems from Artisan and Cropster (semi-automatic control solution)
  • Automatic heat switch-off when the desired final temperature is reached
  • Automatic safety shutdown of the burner when the temperature limit is reached

SAFETY

Regardless of the selected control solution, the UG retro’s safety features guarantee maximum process reliability.

  • A buzzer immediately indicates a malfunction has occurred.
  • The burner switches off automatically as soon as a temperature limit has been reached.

FEATURES

BURNER
The burner used in the UG retro can be configured for use with natural gas or propane, depending on customer requirements, and stands out due to the following features:

  • High capacity
  • Continuously adjustable for a more flexible roasting process
  • State-of-the-art safety technology, including gas and flame monitoring

ROASTING CYCLONE
